Bangkok - Som Tam restaurant

Came across a fellow scrapbooker's blog about her favourite restaurant in Bangkok. It is a must visit place whenever she and her husband go to Bangkok. I did a search on google and found other favourable reviews about it.

Luckily the restaurant is located in the next lane from our hotel so we found it with ease. The 1st time we went, there was a queue but luckily they were moving people into the restaurant already and we got our seats immediately!

Som Tam means payaya salad in Thai. However we did not order their signature dish the 1st time, we ordered mango salad. It was super sour and spicy because it's all green mango! The 2nd time we ordered som tam and it was very good!

The killer dish is the spicy pork soup. Oh my god, it's super spicy! I cannot really take hot food, this is too much for me. But this soup is quite addictive. The more you drink, the more you want it, even though it is so spicy and sour! Almost every table around us ordered this soup.

My favourite is the chicken wings. Full of garlic and so crispy! Thumbs up!

We also ordered a rice noodle which was drenched with pork floss on top. The coconut ice-cream is very refreshing with bits of coconut in it.

Seriously the pork soup is not for the weak stomach. The effect took on hubby and he went to the toilet several times at night! But it is worth going for good and inexpensive local food. To avoid the crowds, try going between 2.30 to 5.30pm.

Try it when you are in Bangkok!

  2. Yes Yvonne we tried what you recommended on your blog! I love the chicken wings soooo much! Prefer their som tam salad more than the mango salad though.

I actually attended the Dress Up class at Papermarket with you! :)
